Description
How it works: Each of eight blocks has a different combination of pins and openings on three sides. The pins and openings are of two different diameters. The object is to put the blocks together by matching the appropriate pins with their matching sized holes on adjacent blocks until all can be arranged into a 2x2x2 cube.
Story behind the puzzle: This idea literally came to me in a dream. I woke up one morning with the picture of this in my mind. I quickly made a list of the different combinations and soon had a wooden version built. I was never satisfied with the inaccuracies in my wooden cubes, so once again, 3D printing came to the rescue for quickly and repeatedly making these puzzles to share.
My original version used long and short pins. I have to thank my coworker, Mark, for the suggestion to use different diameters for the pins rather than different lengths. I also tried a version with three different diameters rather than just two, but I’m sticking with the two pin option here. I don’t think you’ll find this to be too difficult, but hope you’ll find enough challenge to enjoy!
